The Old Rhine Bridge turns an international border into a quiet walking and cycling crossing. Its enclosed timber structure gives a close view of traditional bridge engineering, while openings reveal the river, gravel banks and mountain backdrop. Because the national boundary runs through the bridge, the crossing also makes Liechtenstein’s geography unusually tangible: Vaduz, Sevelen and two countries are separated by only a short walk across the Rhine.

History
The present covered bridge dates from the beginning of the twentieth century and replaced earlier Rhine crossings. It survived while most comparable wooden bridges along this stretch of river disappeared, leaving it as an important example of regional transport history.
