Why visit

Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein offers a strong counterpoint to the castles and churches that shape much of the country’s visitor landscape. Its compact galleries focus on modern and contemporary art, while the building itself is an important piece of recent architecture, faced in a dark aggregate that changes character with the light. The adjoining Hilti Art Foundation adds further exhibition space, making this one of the most substantial indoor cultural stops in the principality despite Vaduz’s small scale.

History

The museum opened in 2000 as Liechtenstein’s state art museum. Its purpose-built home was designed by Swiss architects Meinrad Morger, Heinrich Degelo and Christian Kerez. The Hilti Art Foundation exhibition building was added alongside it in the following decade.
