Minoan palatial site overlooking the Messara Plain, with monumental courts, stairways and storerooms. Phaistos became a major Minoan centre in the second millennium BCE. An early palace was destroyed and rebuilt, and excavations exposed a complex organised around a large central court; the famous Phaistos Disc was found in the wider palace area. The visit is strongest when you focus on central court, grand staircase and messara plain views.
