Hilltop fortress above the stone town of Molyvos on Lesvos, with broad views across the northern Aegean. Fortification of the hill has ancient and Byzantine roots, while the present walls largely reflect Genoese Gattilusi and Ottoman phases. The castle protected the harbour and settlement at one of Lesvos's strategic northern points.
