Monastery built against a dramatic cliff above the Vouraikos valley near Kalavryta. Tradition places the monastery's foundation in the fourth century, although its buildings were repeatedly destroyed by fires and warfare and reconstructed. The present complex reflects later rebuilding and remains an important Orthodox pilgrimage site. The visit is strongest when you focus on cliffside setting, main church and icon tradition and vouraikos valley views.
