Đurđevi Stupovi is worth including in a Serbia itinerary for its direct connection with architecture, religious art and the long continuity of worship and patronage. The main visit can be organised around principal church architecture, historic artworks and memorials, monastic or civic setting. These elements make the site useful for understanding the wider Novi Pazar area rather than treating it only as a photo stop. History
Stefan Nemanja founded Đurđevi Stupovi in the twelfth century. The monastery’s hilltop position and architecture connect it with the formative period of the medieval Serbian state.
