Faetano Historic Centre

Why visit

Faetano provides a useful stop on the eastern side of the republic, away from the steep summit streets and larger northern settlements. The historic centre is compact and best appreciated for its church, civic scale and relationship with the surrounding Marano valley landscape. It also represents the group of territories added to San Marino in the 15th century, an essential part of the republic’s territorial story. A visit combines naturally with Montegiardino and Domagnano on a road-based circuit.

History

Faetano was among the territories acquired by San Marino in 1463 after the defeat of Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta and the reorganisation of lands formerly under Malatesta influence. The castello developed as a small agricultural community, with its parish church and civic centre forming the focus of local life.
