Fort Antoine combines a military site, a compact outdoor performance space and a broad Mediterranean outlook. Outside performance periods it is useful for understanding how the eastern edge of the Rock was defended and how Monaco has adapted historic structures for cultural use. During programmed events, the amphitheatre setting becomes the main reason to visit. Its location also extends a Monaco-Ville walk beyond the palace-and-cathedral core, with direct visual links to the sea and the modern coastline to the east.

History
A fortification occupied this strategic eastern point of the Rock before the Second World War. The earlier structure was destroyed during the war. Under Prince Rainier III, the site was reconstructed in the 1950s and adapted as an open-air theatre, preserving a military character while giving the position a new cultural role.
