Why visit

Palmse is one of the best places to see how an Estonian manor operated as a complete estate. The main house provides furnished interiors and family history, while barns, workshops, park structures and landscaped grounds extend the story into everyday management and leisure. Restoration was carried out across much of the ensemble rather than focusing only on the residence. The manor’s location inside Lahemaa makes it easy to compare aristocratic estate culture with nearby forests, bogs and traditional villages on the same day.

History

Palmse has medieval documentary origins, while the surviving manor complex developed over later centuries. Major restoration began in the twentieth century, turning the estate into an important public heritage site within Lahemaa National Park.
