Alatskivi Castle stands apart from Estonia’s Baroque manor houses because its towers, gables and pale façade draw strongly on nineteenth-century romantic architecture. Restored interiors explain the estate and local history, while displays connected with composer Eduard Tubin add a cultural layer. The surrounding park and rural Peipsimaa setting make the visit more than an isolated house tour. It fits naturally into a route north of Tartu where manor history can be combined with villages and landscapes around Lake Peipus.

History
The manor has older origins, but its present appearance was created mainly between 1876 and 1885 for Arved von Nolcken. The design was influenced by British, particularly Scottish, historicist architecture. Major restoration work was completed in the early twenty-first century.
