Larnaca Salt Lake

Why visit

The salt lake gives Larnaca a landscape experience within minutes of the urban centre. Water levels, colours and birdlife change through the year, so no two visits are guaranteed to look alike. Its strongest context comes from combining the wetland with Hala Sultan Tekke on the shore and observing wildlife from appropriate distances. The stop works especially well when placed beside nearby sites from the same region, because the contrast in landscape, architecture or historical period makes the wider character of Cyprus easier to understand.

History
