Why visit

The Belogradchik Rocks are best understood as a landscape rather than a single viewpoint. Erosion has produced groups of towers and ridges across a wide area, and the changing shapes explain why the formations became surrounded by local names and legends. Their importance is also historical because the adjacent fortress uses the rocks as part of its defensive system. Together, geology and fortification create one of Bulgaria’s clearest examples of human structures adapting to natural terrain.

History
