A steep devotional climb to a large concrete cross on the hill above Međugorje. The cross was erected in 1934, before the reported apparitions, and the mountain later became a central pilgrimage route with Stations of the Cross.

The cross was erected in 1934, before the reported apparitions, and the mountain later became a central pilgrimage route with Stations of the Cross. The place should be understood within Bosnia and Herzegovina’s layered history, where medieval states, Ottoman administration, Austro-Hungarian rule, Yugoslav development and the 1992–1995 war left different traces.
Visitor tips

Allow about 180 minutes for a normal visit, with extra time for photographs, queues, worship, interpretation or rest.

Carry small local-currency cash because minor parking, donations or rural services may not always accept cards.

Dress respectfully at active religious and memorial sites and avoid disrupting worship, funerals or commemorations.

Reconfirm the trailhead, pier, operator base, visitor entrance or road condition.

Stay on marked or clearly used routes. Bosnia and Herzegovina still has mine and unexploded-ordnance risk in some rural areas.
