Hosios Loukas Monastery
Important Middle Byzantine monastery with richly decorated churches in a quiet mountain landscape. The monastery grew around the tomb of the hermit Hosios Loukas, who died in the tenth century. Its churches, built in the tenth and eleventh centuries, preserve mosaics, marble decoration and architecture central to the study of Middle Byzantine Greece.
