Best time to visit

April to June and September to October usually offer the best balance for cities, archaeological sites, lakes and lower mountain walks. July and August bring hot lowland conditions and busy Ohrid weekends, while winter is relevant mainly for city visits and operating ski areas.

High mountains can retain snow well beyond spring. Summer heat, wildfire restrictions, thunderstorms, lake wind and reduced small-venue staffing can change plans. Winter roads, lifts and trails require current confirmation.
