Best time to visit

April to June and September to October normally provide the best balance for cities, archaeology, waterfalls and lower mountain walks. July and August can be hot in towns and exposed heritage sites, while the high mountains have separate snow and storm conditions. Winter is relevant for city breaks and operating ski areas only after road and facility checks.

Mountain snow can remain beyond spring. Summer heat, wildfire restrictions, thunderstorms, water levels, religious access, restoration, border conditions and winter roads can change plans. Check current official information before every journey.
